Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 August 2026

The short version. nemiria is built to collect as little about you as possible. We store your email address (so we can sign you in and sync your progress) and your learning progress. That's it. We don't collect your name, date of birth, phone number, or address. When you answer out loud, your speech is turned into text only to check your answer — on Apple devices this happens on your device, and on Android it's done by Google's speech service; either way we don't keep your audio. We don't sell your data, and we don't use advertising or third-party tracking.

Who we are

nemiria is an independent language-learning app developed and operated from Wellington, New Zealand. For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights below, contact us at hello@nemiria.app.

What we collect, and why

Your email address — collected when you sign in. nemiria uses passwordless “magic link” sign-in, so your email is how we recognise you. We use it to log you in, to sync your progress across your devices, and to restore your progress if you reinstall the app or move to a new phone. Legal basis (EU/UK users): performance of our contract with you — it's needed to provide the service you signed up for.

Your learning progress and settings — which quiz items you've completed, your practice streak, and your in-app preferences (such as your chosen dialect and display toggles). We use this to show your progress and keep it in sync. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.

Microphone / voice — when you answer by speaking, or use the pronunciation feature, your device's microphone captures your speech so it can be turned into text and checked. How that transcription happens depends on your device: on Apple (iOS) devices it is done on your device, and your audio is not uploaded; on Android devices it uses Google's speech-recognition service, which means your spoken audio is sent to Google to be converted to text. Either way, we do not store your audio ourselves.

Subscription status — nemiria offers an optional paid subscription (monthly or annual) that unlocks the full app. If you subscribe, the payment is handled entirely by the app store (Apple or Google) — we never see or store your card details. The store tells the app whether your subscription is active, so we can unlock the paid features. We use RevenueCat to check and manage subscription status on our behalf.

What we do not collect

Age

nemiria is intended for people aged 16 and over and is not directed at children. When you first open the app we ask you to confirm you're 16 or older. We use this only to let you in — we do not store your date of birth.

Where your data is stored, and who helps us process it

Your email and progress are stored using Supabase, our database and authentication provider, in the Sydney, Australia (ap-southeast-2) region. Access is restricted so that only you can read or change your own data.

Other services that process limited data on our behalf:

International transfer

Some of your data may be handled outside your own country: your email and progress are stored in our Supabase region (Sydney, Australia); if you use the speaking features on Android, your audio is sent to Google's servers to be transcribed; and your subscription status is handled by the app stores and RevenueCat. We rely on those providers' safeguards to protect it. If you'd like more detail, email us.

How long we keep your data

We keep your email and progress for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we permanently erase your email address and all of your progress from our systems. You can delete your account at any time from within the app — the option is available even if you're using the app as a guest.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

To exercise any of these, email hello@nemiria.app.

If you're in New Zealand, you have these rights under the Privacy Act 2020, and you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner. If you're in the EU or UK, you have them under the GDPR / UK GDPR, and you can complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls that restrict each account to its own data. No online service can be completely secure, but we take care to limit both what we collect and who can reach it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we'll update the “Last updated” date above, and we'll tell you in the app or by email if the change is significant.
